How to sharpen your IQ the DDB way

At DDB Latvia annual IQ camp, valuable lectures were complemented by mobile activities, creating the ideal composition with which to polish our team’s IQ.
We launched the event in the most distinguished manner with Order of the Three Starts Cavalier and Rundāle Palace Museum Director Imants Lancmanis’ story about restoration processes and his anthropological observations from his long years of work at the palace. In this age of innovative technology, Mr Lancmanis invited us not to forget the Old Masters’ dedication to refining their skills and abilities. As an example, he mentioned the first restorers at Rundāle Palace, who did not have access to the ubiquitous 3D models and preliminary sketches that we use today, instead being forced to rely on their experience and handicrafts, which were sufficient to enable them to restore the most delicate and exquisite of ornaments. However, in no way was this a call to reject the advantages offered by technology. On the contrary, Mr Lancmanis himself admitted that, for example, his life would be unimaginable without his beloved Photoshop.
The camp continued with a lecture by journalist Jānis Domburs on the current issues of the day, which he turned into an interesting discussion. We had a lot of questions for one of Latvia’s sharpest minds and students of political processes. Overall, Jānis’ answers prompted us to keep a watchful eye on the political arena as we go about our daily business. In the coming elections, he reminded us that we can make smarter and more justified choices if we compare the current activities and proposals of politicians with their past deeds and misdeeds.
The event concluded with a talk by the President of the Latvian Athletics Association and one of our most outstanding athletes Ineta Radēviča, who are shared her experience as a competitor in professional sport and in administrative work. Ineta encouraged us to always keep our big dream in life at the front of our minds and to visualise it, because this is how she has managed to overcome every obstacle on the way to her greatest achievements, including the title of European Champion and silver medallist at the World Championships. However, Ineta also advised to look at everything flexibly, explaining that she has learned a lot by going with the flow of opportunities that have come her way, both expectedly and unexpectedly, during the course of her life. In turn, Ineta’s achievements in resolving municipal sports education issues give rise to the notion that it is very appropriate and smart for changes at state level to begin at local level.
At the end of the day, everyone had the chance to test, challenge and prove themselves in a wide variety of ways, ranging from football and yoga at sunset to polishing the dance floor at sunrise.
