Breakfast of Champions #32 - Broadening Horizons

On June 15, we served our Breakfast of Champions for the 32nd time. Invitees gathered in VEF Creative Disctrict’s Chamber Hall and devoured 3 courses in order to broaden their knowledge and break down mental barriers.
DDB Latvia strategic director, Anna Celmiņa’s entrée created a craving for something new in retail. She shared her insights from Retail Futures Forum in London. It turns out that the question ‘How much does it cost?’ will fade into irrelevance, and QR codes, like the Terminator, promise they’ll be back. What are Soul Machines and how will they replace family conversations? The answer to this and other questions about the future of retail can be found in the video below. One thing is certain - unique experiences will soon define shopping, and Anna’s presentations are exactly that.
The ambitious main course was served by architect Zane Tetere-Šulce, who recounted how she borrowed elements from the most inspirational cities in the world to construct something entirely new in Riga. She reminded us of the famous proverb: ‘everything new is well-forgotten old’. In order to create new urban gems, imagination and diligence are more important than money. How to expand not just your physical space but also your mind and opportunities? You’re one click away from finding out.

The Ābele brothers served a dessert worthy of champions. The directing duo explained why they were more interested in carving their own path than following tradition. How to create that which has never been seen before and reconstruct an era that doesn’t exist anymore? How to achieve Hollywood worthy effects and drama with only a fraction of the budget? The answers to these questions can be found in the video below, and also in their new film The Last Pagans of Europe.
