Selga cookie caught dipping

Each of us knows what Selga cookies are. What’s more, most of us have some story or memories connected with Selga cookies. This is hardly surprising, because the traditions of eating Selga cookies have evolved over more than half a century – dating way back to the 1950s. This should be celebrated!
With the assistance of DDB Latvia and Film Angels Studio, a Selga video was filmed using a special technique. Filming involved the use of two Super 8 cameras, which are unique in that they allow viewers to enjoy the special retro aura provided by video, because the reel is filmed on tape instead of digitally. See how it was done.
In order to develop and edit this film, it was taken to Berlin, because this can’t be done in Latvia. Nowadays, the Super 8 camera is used rarely, but this equipment has not lost its special charm. Since the 1960s, the Super 8 camera has been a very popular personal camera which has often been used to shoot home videos. Even today, many videos have survived in this format showcasing kids’ first steps, birthday parties and weddings.
According to Ilze Priedīte, Laima’s Marketing Director, "In making a video about the traditions of eating Selga cookies, we discovered an interesting coincidence – times change, but the traditions of eating Selga cookies remain unchanged. We have grown up with Selga cookies; many people associate them with a time when the sun shone brighter and the grass was greener. We have tried to bring this feeling to life in Selga cookies’ new video, using special Super 8 cameras. In my opinion, through this video we have succeeded in creating this special feeling which can unite two people – the same cookie enjoyment habits that have prevailed for half a century."
For your information, there are four main types of cookie eaters, which continue from generation to generation – the biggest group is that of cookie dippers, who usually dip cookies into their milk or tea before eating them. From the focus groups we organised, we discovered that the greatest trick here is to choose the right moment to extract the cookie. A few seconds too long and the cookie will drown in the cup forever. The second group is that of cookie spreaders, who enjoy complementing the cookie with some other flavour nuance, most commonly jam or butter. For cookie chewers who don’t particularly care about their style of eating – the main thing is the cookie and therefore they set about eating it straight away. In turn, cookie breakers most frequently divide the cookie into smaller pieces, breaking it up into various cookie figures.
