www.visitventspils.com, the Virtual Embassy of Ventspils, created jointly by the city of Ventspils, DDB and Cube, has received a top prize in the Tourism Website 2012 category at the Tourism Person of the Year awards, organized by the European Regional Tourism Institute.
In the poll of tourism industry professionals held as part of the competition, www.visitventspils.com overtook such websites as www.liveriga.com, www.latvia.travel and www.aerodium.com.
To ensure the successful integration of its various activities, the Virtual Embassy of Ventspils www.visitventspils.com was created within another campaign, A State within a State. On the website, visitors can not only learn about the city’s tourist attractions and activities, but also plan a trip, share experiences and make local money – Vents. This currency allows visitors to receive discounts at more than 60 attractions. Of course, the travel website also has a mobile version.
The campaign A State within a State has already won a number of significant awards at the creative excellence festival ADwards, the international advertising festival Golden Hammer and at the 13th Kiev International Advertising Festival. In 2012 it also received a prestigious European Excellence Award in the Launch category, in addition to having received a special jury award for creativity and an innovative approach.
The Tourism Person of the Year competition is organized by the European Regional Tourism Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Tourism Development Agency and Latvian tourism industry associations.
