Champions’ Breakfast NO. 29 - in the brain of Ķīpsala

Champions’ Breakfast NO. 29 - in the brain of Ķīpsala

They say that the heart of Ķīpsala lies somewhere by the Balasta dam (Balasta dambis). Ķīpsala got its name from the surname of a fisherman who lived there during the 17th century – Pēteris Ķīpis. We have found the heart, but the brain of Ķīpsala lies where we had breakfast for the 29th time – in the RTU Design Factory. This time the menu was taken care of by DDB Latvia creative director Vairis Strazds, Egils Grasmanis of Brain Games and the director of RTU Design Factory Guntis Kuļikovskis.

Sometimes it is best to start a conversation with the “major” issues. For example, is being good worth it? To find answers to this and other questions, our creative director Vairis visited the largest festival for advertising and creativity – the Cannes Lions. And, as it turns out, the answer is yes, being good is indeed worth it. The shortlisted and awarded examples in Vairis’ story prove that it is not only worth it, but can also be an essential factor in business development. Simultaneously the hero of many influential and effective advertising stories is not some tough and relevant issue, but the advertised product itself.

The breakfast idea was adopted by the co-founder of Braingames.lv and one of the creators of the board game Ice Cool – Egils Grasmanis. Ice Cool is the first Latvian produced game which has received prestigious awards globally in the board game industry, and is recognised as the family board game of the year in Germany and the USA. Perhaps to many, games are just a reminder of their childhood, but Egils’ story draws clear parallels with any entrepreneurship regardless of the age of the clientele. In particular, that undying motivation and never-ending innovation are must-have assets.

For dessert, the director of the RTU Design Factory and world champion in robotics, Guntis Kuļikovskis, has prepared a tale about the environment. This is a subject that is important for any process, from putting a nail in a tree to pursuing an idea and evolving our minds. It is possible to make new and meaningful products in the correct environment. As Guntis stated – there is no right or wrong way to put in a nail. We learn something new, whatever the result may be.
