A virtual metropolis that’s in the centre of students’ attention

A virtual metropolis that’s in the centre of students’ attention

“In times like these, when more and more students from Baltics and Eastern Europe are considering studies in Amsterdam, London, New York or even Hong Kong, it’s ever more important to show in a modern and innovative way that one of the leading Business Schools in Europe is right here in Riga,” says Anders Paalzow, a rector of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.

If we can’t realistically compete with the largest metropolises, we have to create our own; one, that brings together all strengths of the most prosperous cities. With such ambition, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga together with DDB Latvia and Cube developed an innovative communication platform that showcases the University as the land of opportunities.

“Similar to the biggest cities in the world, SSE Riga is a place where one can arrive without any experience or knowledge, but have a clear set of goals to achieve in life. By using all of the given opportunities, one can develop a competitive edge to effectively realise them,” comments Kristaps Silins, the Strategic Planner of the campaign.

In the centre of the created universe, there is a stylised version of School’s Art Nouveau building that’s surrounded by 7 districts. The Student Association is represented by the White House. A student-developed game that stimulates stock markets “Investment Game” is presented by visual reference to London's financial center. Annual sporting events can be found at the stadium, but the Centre for Entrepreneurship is residing Silicon Valley. The virtual debating arena is populated by the internationally successful members of SSE Riga Debating Society and the various SSE Riga’s organisations that are responsible for Culture events, can be found in Coliseum. Moreover, there’s a chance to find out about the international careers of alumni by visiting the airport.

Since the launch of the platform, every 3rd visitor of the virtual metropolis has applied for the studies, but almost 6k has appreciated the innovative solution. To spread the word and popularise the platform, there is also an opportunity to receive a virtual Citizenship Pass that can be shared across social media channels.

Don’t forget to drop by, but don’t hesitate to seize the opportunities SSE Riga can give - you still have a week to apply for the studies.
