Camera Ready? Action! "Starmetis" short film festival

Those who refer to Latvia as Little Paris can now also rest easy calling it Little Hollywood. We’re delighted and proud to announce that very soon, on 22 August, some exciting new feature films will be premiered during the "Starmetis" short film festival at "Cinamon" cinema.

The festival was organised through a close collaboration between s/c Alfa and DDB Latvia. According to Una Rozenbauma, DDB Latvia’s Creative Director, "The idea of the festival arose, because the state doesn’t issue grants for film production and it’s very hard to find the money to make your first film. But often short films serve as a step up to filming a full length feature film."

At the festival, we’ll see the three films which won the "Starmetis" script competition and were awarded co-financing from s/c Alfa, as well as other shorts. During the premiere screening, the film chosen as the winner of the Grand Prix will be announced, as well as the film receiving the award as the audience’s favourite.

Out of almost 50 scripts that were sent in, the competition jury (film critic Dita Rietuma, director Jānis Nords and film producer Roberts Vinovskis) chose the three best. A great chance to shoot their short film was won by Madara Didrihsone, brothers Raitis and Lauris Ābele, as well as the duo of Reinis Traidās and Vents Grīnbaums.

The way to support Latvian cinema is to watch it. See you at Starmetis!
