DDB Latvia in the EXPO 2015 competition final

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve made it to the final of the competition to create the content and architectonic form of Latvia’s exposition at the EXPO international exhibition. We want to share our joy, therefore we invite everyone to check out the work of our potent creative union: DDB Latvia, Sarma&Norde architects, LEAD, Culture Project Agency Indie, WARP, Krišs Salmanis, Uģis Vītiņš and EcoCatering: www.expo2015.lv!
At the centre of our proposed concept for Latvia’s exhibition are the four seasons, whose transition embodies Latvia’s quaintness and local diversity. Latvia is a land of contrasts epitomised by the transition of the four seasons – each with its own radiance, landscape and course of daily human existence, as well as its own flavours, scents and sounds.
Accordingly, Latvia’s pavilion has been envisaged as a mysterious path where the four seasons reveal themselves chronologically through the interplay of rays of light, relief and sounds characteristic of Latvia, creating free space for the imagination of each viewer.
An integral element of the concept is the involvement of Latvia’s population in the creation of the exposition’s sound landscape, collecting acoustic miniatures from various corners of Latvia. These sounds will be heard not only in the pavilion, but also at the outdoor exhibits such as a piano, on which anyone can “play” their seasonal sound compositions.
During the exhibition, for series of events are planned for various audiences comprised of concert, documentary film, conference and Latvian product presentation cycles, which continue the idea of the four seasons. The Latvian pavilion restaurant is also intended to be an important element of the exhibition, allowing every visitor to enjoy the flavours of all four of Latvia’s seasons.
